Feels like your walking back in time when you go into this diner. It has been around since 1948 and is still owned/ran by same family. The hand breaded chicken nuggets are great. The pies are all homemade and fabulous!
If your ever heading through Durant this should definitely be a pitstop.
Great hospitality, nostalgia, and food! -

One of the best locally owned restaurants in Durant. Amazing house sauce. Onion rings hand breaded and fried to perfection. Cheeseburgers are thick and juicy. Awesome food, awesome prices.

Looooove the onion rings. Always have good service and feel at home there. My favorite besides the onion rings are the chicken fried steak sandwich and the rueben sandwich. It's so huge I have yet to finish a whole one

Escaping from an unwarranted wait for seating at all the local casino dining venues and Naifeh's across the street, last Saturday night, we drove into downtown Durant. We googled this one, and drove to the location. Hesitancy of expectations because of nearly empty parking lot, at 6 pm, was overcome by our time constraints, and the "Open" sign lit, so we took a chance and took further look. What we found was a gem, and an excellent cafe. The cafe serves a variety of family friendly home style menu items, served up in extremely generous portions, properly prepared, quickly served and by attentive wait staff. My wife had beef burrito and it was excellently prepared, consisting of two huge tortilla wrapped, delectably prepared ground beef, lettuce, chopped tomato, onion, and a very nice medium salsa on side. I had the deep fried catfish filets (2- very large), which came with oven baked potato, and choice of several sides. I chose the mixed green salad, which was well selected, cold, fresh, and I clearly made the correct dressing selection of "house- Sherers's Special Dressing", which was excellent. Save room for freshly made pies, baked on site daily. We had a chocolate cream, and a coconut cream and both were fabulous.
A special treat is that this is the cafe's 66th year open. It has had the same owner since opened in 1948. Leon Sherrer, Cain in hand, visited with us while we awaited our meals. His son is the general manager. His grandson is the chief cook. If you are traveling through Durant, bring your appetite to this cafe. Except for the lack of ANY real butter, this is the place to eat. We will be back. -

When we first walked in it looked old & dated but it has been open for 66 years this year!
It's a seat yourself option and there were only two other tables occupied.
We felt welcomed and the staff is friendly. In spite of the age the place is clean. The menu is simple and we all opted to try the burgers.
The patties were hand made and I found it to be a really good burger. The crinkle cut frozen fries were over done but didnt taste horrible. In fact if the fries had been hand cut freah fries id have given 5 stars.
The strawberry pie was EXCELLENT! I am not huge on strawberries but that was by far the best pie!
